Dr. Shahria Alam

Prof. Dr. Shahria Alam

Dr. Shahria Alam is a Civil Engineering Professor and Tier-1 Principal’s Research Chair in Resilient & Green Infrastructure at the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s Okanagan campus.

He is the Director of UBC’s Green Construction Research & Training Center (GCRTC). He is the Vice-President of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) and the past Chair of the Engineering Mechanics and Materials Division of CSCE. He chairs the Joint ACI-ASCE 441 Committee.

He received his PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering from Western University in 2008. His research interests include smart and recycled materials and their structural engineering applications. He has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles in these areas, and is the recipient of numerous national and international awards including several best paper awards. 

Currently, Dr. Alam is serving on the Editorial Board of ASCE’s Journal of Bridge Engineering and Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and Elsevier’s Engineering Structures.

Prof. Dr. Henk M. Jonkers

Henk Jonkers received his PhD degree from Groningen University in 1999. 

After 7 years working as research scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen he moved to Delft University of Technology where he is currently as full professor leading the Sustainability research group within the Materials & Environment section of the Materials, Mechanics, Management and Design (3MD) department at the CEG Faculty of the Delft University of Technology. 

His main research concerns development of low environmental footprint but high performance bio-adapted-, self-healing-, and circular construction materials.

Prof. Caijun Shi

Prof. Caijun Shi is currently the president of Asian Concrete Federation, Chair Professor of the College of Civil Engineering, Hunan University, Director of Key Laboratory of Building Safety and Energy Efficiency of Ministry of Education of China, Key Laboratory for Green & Advanced Civil Engineering Materials and Application Technology of Hunan Province, and International Science and Technology Innovation Centre for Green & Advanced Civil Engineering Materials of Hunan Province. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of <Journal of Sustainable Cement-based Materials>, and associate editor or editorial board members of many other journals. He has authored/co-authored more than 540 technical papers, seven English books, five Chinese books and edited/co-edited seven international conference proceedings. 

His Google scholar citation is over 33,800 and H-index of 95 (by Jan 20, 2023). He ranks No. 2 for year 2022 and No.4 between year 1969-2021 in Building and Construction Sector worldwide based on the composite index from Stanford University. He has delivered over 240 plenary/keynote/invited lectures all over the world, including three keynote lectures at the previous International Congress on the Chemistry of Cements, has received many awards for his researches. He has developed several commercialized novel technologies and products and has been granted 4 US and 50 Chinese patents, and was elected as a fellow of International Energy Foundation in 2001, American Concrete Institute in 2007, RILEM in 2016, and Hongkong Concrete Institute in 2022.
